643       AREA ELIGIBILITY LISTS

Education Code 45283

In any school district that has geographical boundaries encompassing more than 200 square miles and that divides the area it serves into smaller areas for assignment of classified personnel, the personnel commission may establish area eligibility lists in those areas where the district eligibility list is exhausted. Appointments to positions within the area shall be made from the first three ranks of persons on the area eligibility list as determined by the commission, who are ready and willing to accept the position. The life of the new area eligibility list shall be not less than one year. The life of the list may be extended for up to an additional period of two years at the discretion of the commission. Seniority for the purpose specified in Section 45308 shall continue to be district-wide.

A.         The assignment areas referred to in this Rule shall be the assignment areas defined by the Personnel              Commission staff.

B.         When an eligibility list has fewer than three ranks available for a position in one assignment area, but there are available eligibles in other assignment areas, an area eligibility list may be established, maintained, and cerified by the Employment Transactions Services Branch of the Personnel Commission. Admission to the examination may be restricted to applicants who are available for the assignment(s) specified in the examination announcement or recruitment bulletin.

C.         When an area eligibility list is to be established, it shall be publicly announced prior to the examination              administration. The life of such an eligibility list shall be not less than one year and may be extended for              up to an additional two years in accordance with Rule 642.

D.         The life of other eligibility lists shall not be affected by the establishment of an area eligibility list.

E.         Area eligibility lists shall not be merged with District-wide lists.
