589SALARY DIFFERENTIAL FOR CONSTRUCTION INSPECTORS AND CONSTRUCTION INSPECTORS (CLASS 1) WITH MAJOR PROJECT ASSIGNMENTS
A. A Construction Inspector or Construction Inspector (Class 1) shall be paid a ten-percent salary differential when charged with complete inspectional responsibility for the construction of a new secondary school or other major project of similar scope.
1.Before assignment to a Construction Inspector or Construction Inspector (Class 1) of responsibility for a major project, a written notice of intent shall be sent to the Personnel Director for approval.
2.A report that summarizes all assignments in the year shall be sent to the Personnel Director at the end of each fiscal year, with a copy to the Controller, specifying the name of the project and the Construction Inspector or Construction Inspector (Class 1) charged with complete responsibility.
B. Payment of the ten-percent differential to a Construction Inspector or Construction Inspector (Class 1) shall be discontinued upon termination of the employee from the special assignment.
C.Construction Inspectors and Construction Inspector (Class 1) to be given special assignments shall be designated by the head of the Inspection Branch, subject to approval by the division head. Such assignments shall be given to the most senior employee in the class who meets the requirements and has requested such an assignment. For the purpose of this Rule, seniority shall be computed on the basis of assigned time in the class and higher classes. Requests for assignment as a major-project Construction Inspector or major-project Construction Inspector (Class 1) shall be considered active for a period of one year. In the absence of an active request, special assignments shall be based on objective considerations, including:
1. the nature and requirements of the major project
2. possession by the Construction Inspector or Construction Inspector (Class 1) of required licenses
3.equitable distribution of assignments to the Construction Inspectors and Construction Inspectors (Class 1) who have the necessary personal and technical qualifications.
D. This differential shall be considered a long-term differential and shall be continued during paid absences. Assignment of complete inspectional responsibility for a major construction project shall not affect salary step advancement, promotion, classification status, or salary allocation upon any other assignment.
CHANGE:
Rule amended to clarify that employees in the class of Construction Inspector (Class 1) are eligible for a salary differential when inspecting a major project.
