Using Assistive Technologies

Every student deserves the right to access the curricula in the least restrictive environment possible. A variety of assistive technologies are available to assist educators in providing that access.

The information provided in this section is designed to familiarize you with a variety of methods and devices to enhance students' access to the curricula, whether built in to your computer or available as add-on software or hardware items.

Whether you are using the curricula supplied within this web site, materials provided by other publishers, or your own materials, the method discussed may assist you in providing maximum access to curricula.

There are a number of ways to categorize the different methods to enhance access to curricula. To use a straightforward and fairly simple way of classifying these assistive technologies we will use two categories: input devices or methods and output devices or methods.
