Purpose: The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy funds family literacy initiatives and literacy programs that "build families of readers." Family Literacy programs must address all of the following: 1.) Reading instruction for parents or primary caregivers. 2.) Literacy or pre-literacy instruction for children. 3.) Intergenerational activities where parent/caregiver and children learn and read together. 4. Additional areas including parent support groups, home visits, job training.
