Funding Agency National Council for the Social Studies
Purpose: The purpose of this grant is to fund teacher attendance at the "CiviConnections:Constructing the past, creating the future" summer workshop.  The program will focus on linking local history inquiry with community service-learning activities.  
Eligibility: Requirements for the application include the following: 1) apply in a team of three teachers from grades 3-12 in the same district, 2) an existing membership in the National Council for the Social Studies or agree to join, 3) partner with at least one local community agency, 4) involve at least 25 students per teacher in at least 20 hours of service, 5) attend one 3 day summer 2004 workshop and the 2004 NCSS Annual Conference in MD, 6) implement the program in the fall of 2004,  7) comply with grant evaluation and reporting procedures.

Deadline: Applications are due at NCSS no later than 5pm on Friday, April 30, 2004.
Total Funds Available: Thirty-three applications will be funded in 2004 for more than 297 teachers and 7425 students nationwide.
Average Award: A team of three teachers may apply for a grant of $7,500
