District Interns in the Education Specialist for Mild/Moderate Disabilities Program and Education Specialist for Moderate/Severe Disabilities Program enroll in the Professional Development Plan leading to the Preliminary California Credential and a Clear California Credential.

- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university w/official transcripts reflecting a minimum 2.7 GPA
- CBEST
- CSET (CSET scores expire after 5 years)**
- U.S. Constitution (via exam or coursework)
- Interview
- Letters of recommendation
- Authorization to work in U.S.
- Health and fingerprint clearance
- Selected for employment at a school site

**PLEASE NOTE: Education Specialists interested in teaching at the secondary levels may be required to take CSET Single Subject English, Mathematics, or Science.
District Interns begin the Professional Development Plan with the following Pre-Service Requirements:

Candidates entering the program without credentials complete 160 clock hours of pre-service training provided before entering the classroom

Candidates entering the program with general education credentials complete 80 clock hours of pre-service training provided before entering the classroom
District Interns in the Education Specialist Program:
- New District interns or current teachers working under an emergency waiver certificate
- Teach in a Special Day Class assignment only.
Credentialed Educators Now Teaching Special Education (CENTSE):
- Teachers with a general education credential who wish to become special education teachers
- Teach in an Resource Specialist Program (RSP) or a Special Day Class (SDC) assignment
