LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
POLICY RELATED TO SEXUAL HARASSMENT
REVISED FEBRUARY 1995

 

  1. All employees have a right to a work environment free from sexual harassment.
  2. The Los Angeles Unified School District prohibits sexual harassment, a form of sex discrimination. Sexual harassment in any form, including verbal, physical, and visual conduct, threats, demands, and/or retaliation by an individual will not be tolerated.
  3. Employees making complaints alleging sexual harassment shall have the right to a fair and expeditious administrative determination as to the merits of the allegations and to be protected against unlawful retaliation.
  4. Employees accused of sexual harassment have the right to a fair and expeditious administrative determination as to the merits of the allegations.
  5. It shall be the responsibility of the Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Office, or its successor, to conduct an independent investigation into allegations of sexual harassment upon the timely filing of a written complaint and to render findings and conclusions with respet to the allegations.
  6. In event a finding is made that sexual harassment has occurred, complainant shall be entitled to an appropriate remedy, which shall be determined by supervisory line authority.
  7. In the event a finding is made that sexual harassment has occurred, disciplinary action against the employee engaging in such misconduct shall be imposed, as determined by supervisory line authority, and shall be appropriate and commensurate with the findings.
  8. In the event a finding is made that sexual harassment has not occurred, District records shall appropriately reflect that finding.
  9. All complaints shall be handled in a confidential manner. Information will be provided only to those persons with a need to know within District reporting procedures and the investigatory process.
  10. District staff shall promulgate appropriate information and guidelines so that employees are clearly informed as to what constitutes sexual harassment and their rights and obligations.
