The rattlesnake can grow from one to five feet long. It is a dark blotched greenish - brown snake with a flat diamond-shaped head. The rattlesnake uses a heat-sensing area between its eyes and nostrils, which helps detect prey. It is usually found in dry areas among low bushes and scrub trees.

The two types of rattlesnakes at Clear Creek are the Pacific and Western Rattlesnakes. Although rattlesnakes are found at Clear Creek, they are always caught and transported to higher ground.
