Manzanita (a Spanish word meaning "little
apple") was named so because of the fruits
resemblance to a small apple. Its leaves are usually
stiff, tough, and waxy to help seal the water inside
during the hot summer months. The berries of the
Manzanita are a valuable food source for wildlife, and
the bark was often used by some Native Americans to make
a type of tea drink. |
