The Blue-Bellied Lizard is also known as the Western Fence Lizard. This lizard can grow six to ten inches long. It is a brown-green or black lizard with blue patches on its neck, sides and belly. The Blue-Bellied Lizard is found in the chaparral and also in rocky areas, near buildings, and fences. Its blue underside has a dual purpose used both to attract females and to defend its territory.

The Blue-Bellied Lizard is very easily spotted at Clear Creek during the warmer months.
