Motions And Resolutions For Adoption

Y.Mr. Horton - Support of the "Junior Police Academy" Concept

Whereas, Community policing, which is the reform goal of the Los Angeles Police Department, works best when the police are from the community;

Whereas, The Los Angeles Police Department faces the continual challenge of recruiting officers especially from underrepresented minorities and women;

Whereas, The Los Angeles Unified School District operates a myriad of special academic programs aimed at specific careers; and

Whereas, The Sacramento Police Department and the Sacramento Unified School District jointly operate a "Junior Police Academy" in a Sacramento high school; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the Board of Education of the City of Los Angeles support the concept of high school magnet programs jointly supported by the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Unified School District to prepare students for careers in law enforcement, and further directs the Superintendent to work with the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Police Department to develop such programs.
