SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES

11:00 a.m., Friday, November 19, 2004

 

The Board of Education of the City of Los Angeles, acting as the Governing Board of the

Los Angeles Unified School District, met in special session on Friday, November 19, 2004, at the Los Angeles Board of Education Administrative Offices, Room 122, 333 South Beaudry Avenue, Los Angeles.

 

President JosŽ Huizar called the meeting to order at 11:28 a.m.

 

The following Board Members were present:  Ms. Marlene Canter, Ms. Julie Korenstein,

Mr. Mike Lansing, Mr. Jon Lauritzen, and President JosŽ Huizar.  Ms. Marguerite LaMotte and Mr. David Tokofsky arrived at 11:49 a.m. and 11:48 a.m., respectively.

 

Superintendent Roy Romer and Mr. Richard Sheehan, Special Counsel to the Board, were present.  Also in attendance from the Urban Education Partnership were:  Mr. Jon Fullerton, Mr. Salvador Sanchez, and Ms. Sonia Hernandez.

 

Ms. Canter led the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Mr. Fullerton reviewed the draft ŇvisionÓ created at previous meetings and discussed various measurements that could be implemented to determine if the District is making progress on reaching the goal of being one of the top urban school districts in the state and the nation.

The Board recessed the meeting at 1:17 p.m.

The meeting reconvened again at 1:37 p.m.  The following Members were present:  Ms. Canter, Ms. Korenstein, Ms. LaMotte, Mr. Lansing, Mr. Lauritzen, and President Huizar.  Mr. Tokofsky arrived at 1:54 p.m.

 

Discussion continued on how the Board could best communicate its vision, goals, and methods of measurement within the District and with the greater community.

 

On motion by Ms. Korenstein, seconded by Ms. LaMotte, the meeting was adjourned by general consent at 2:22 p.m.
