President José Huizar called the meeting to order at 9:31 a.m.

The following Board Members were present: Ms. Marlene Canter, Ms. Julie Korenstein,
Mr. Jon Lauritzen, Mr. Mike Lansing, Mr. David Tokofsky, and President José Huizar.
Ms. Marguerite LaMotte arrived at 9:43 a.m.

Superintendent Roy Romer and Mr. Richard Sheehan, Special Counsel to the Board, were present. Also in attendance from the Urban Education Partnership were: Mr. Jon Fullerton, Ms. Erin McGoldrich, Ms. Sonia Hernandez, Ms. Kim Williams and Mr. Johnny Griggs.

Mr. Andrew Cazares, Superintendent's Chief of Staff, occupied the Superintendent's Chair upon his departure at 10:18 a.m.

Ms. Canter led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Mr. Fullerton announced the purpose for the day would be to refine the work done at the previous meeting held on June 15, 2004. This would be accomplished by determining the core purpose, agreeing on core values, selecting an "audacious" goal, and finalizing the publicizing the vision. The Board reviewed the previous work and after discussion agreed in principle on the District's core purpose, core values, and an "audacious" goal. The staff of the Urban Education Partnership will draft the exact language for adoption by the Board at a future meeting.

On motion by Mr. Lauritzen, seconded by Ms. Korenstein, the meeting was adjourned by general consent at 11:46 a.m. Mr. Lansing was absent.
