The Board of Education of the City of Los Angeles, acting as the Governing Board of the Los Angeles Unified School District, met in special session on Saturday, March 9, 2002, in Room
H-163, Los Angeles City Board of Education Administrative Offices, 450 North Grand Avenue.

President Caprice Young called the meeting to order at 9:44 a.m.

The following Board Members were present: Ms. Marlene Canter, Mr. José Huizar, Ms. Julie Korenstein, Mr. Mike Lansing,, Ms. Genethia Hudley Hayes and President Caprice Young.
Mr. David Tokofsky was absent for the entire meeting.

Superintendent Roy Romer was present.

Mr. Huizar led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Board Members held a discussion of various aspects of the Board governance process, which included the urgency to make changes, the Board role as a governance body, and the role of management. The Board also discussed some specific recommendations for Board Rule changes made by Mr. Richard Sheehan, Special Counsel to the Board.

Mr. Jefferson Crain, Executive Officer of the Board

On motion by Ms. Canter, seconded by Ms. Korenstein, the meeting was adjourned by general consent at 1:29 p.m.
