SPECIAL CLOSED SESSION MINUTES
9:30.m., Tuesday, October 8, 2002


On call of the President, the Board of Education of the City of Los Angeles, acting as the governing board of the Los Angeles Unified School District, met in public prior to Closed Session on
October 8, 2002, Los Angeles Board of Education Administrative Offices, 333 South Beaudry Avenue, in the Board Room.

Vice President José Huizar called the meeting to order at 10:02 a.m.

The following Board Members were present: Ms. Marlene Canter, Ms. Genethia Hudley Hayes, Ms. Julie Korenstein, and Vice President José Huizar. Mr. Mike Lansing, Mr. David Tokofsky, and Ms. Caprice Young were absent.

Mr. Richard Sheehan, Special Counsel to the Board, and Mr. Harold Kwalwasser, General Counsel, were present.

Ms. Korenstein led the Pledge of Allegiance.

At 10:06 a.m., the Board recessed the public portion of the meeting to begin the closed portion.
Closed Session discussion began at 10:15 a.m. and ended at 12:39 p.m.
All Board Members were present during the closed portion of the meeting, with the
exception of Mr. Lansing who was absent the entire meeting.

The Board reconvened the public portion of the meeting at 3:16 p.m. The following Members were present: Ms. Canter, Ms. Hayes, Mr. Huizar, Ms. Korenstein, Mr. Tokofsky and President Young.
Mr. Lansing was absent.

At the request of President Young, Mr. Sheehan made the following announcements:

Unified School District, Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. SC 063560, for a payment
to Robert Landau of an amount not to exceed approximately $695,000.

The vote was 6 ayes. Mr. Lansing was absent.


The vote was 6 ayes. Mr. Lansing was absent.

for a payment to Pinner Construction Company of an amount not to exceed approximately $2,200,000.

The vote was 6 ayes. Mr. Lansing was absent.

(2 Claims: Claim of Tenant Pizza Man and Claim of Tenant Kragen Auto Parts),
for a payment of $22,000 in excess of the amount previously deposited into the escrow account to Pizza Man Inc. and $19,000 to Kragen Auto Parts.

The Board authorized a settlement in the matter of Los Angeles Unified School District v. Navar, et al., Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC 270649, for a payment to Navar, et al., of $17,000 in excess of the amount previously deposited into the escrow account.

The Board authorized a settlement in the matter of Los Angeles Unified School District v. Austin

Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC 272713, for a payment to Austin of $90,000 in excess of the amount previously deposited into the escrow account.

The Board authorized a settlement in the matter of Los Angeles Unified School District v. Rodarte, et al., Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC 273201, for a payment to
Rodarte, et al., of $30,000 in excess of the amount previously deposited into the escrow account.


The Board authorized a settlement in the matter of Los Angeles Unified School District v. T. Anderson, et al., Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC 272714, for a payment to T. Anderson, et al., of $100,000 in excess of the amount previously deposited into the escrow account.

The Board authorized a settlement in the matter of Los Angeles Unified School District v. Jervis, et al., Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC 273869, for a payment to Jervis, et al., of $47,000 in excess of the amount previously deposited into the escrow account.

The Board authorized a settlement in the matter of Los Angeles Unified School District v. Beaudry, et al., Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC 274 315, for a payment to
Beaudry, et al., of $80,000 in excess of the amount previously deposited into the escrow account.

The Board authorized a settlement in the matter of Los Angeles Unified School District v. Jahangiri, Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC 272981, for a payment to Jahangiri of $22,000 in excess of the amount previously deposited into the escrow account.

The Board authorized a settlement in the matter of Los Angeles Unified School District v. Mkhitarian, et al., Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC 278960, for a payment to
Mkhitarian, et al., of $55,000 in excess of the amount previously deposited into the escrow account.

The Board authorized a settlement in the matter of Los Angeles Unified School District v. Taut, et al., Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC 279583, for a payment to Taut, et al., of $26,000 in excess of the amount previously deposited into the escrow account.

The Board authorized a settlement in the matter of Los Angeles Unified School District v. Gastinell Trust, Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC 277242, for a payment to the
Gastinell Trust, of $62,000 in excess of the amount previously deposited into the escrow account.

The Board authorized a settlement in the matter of Los Angeles Unified School District v. Garcia, et al., Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC 272300, for a payment to
Garcia, et al., of $25,000 in excess of the amount previously deposited into the escrow account.

The Board authorized a settlement in the matter of Los Angeles Unified School District v. Perez,

Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC 275600, for a payment to Perez of $20,000 in excess of the amount previously deposited into the escrow account.

The vote for all the above eminent domain cases was 6 ayes. Mr., Lansing was absent.

On motion by Mr. Tokofsky, seconded by Ms. Canter, the meeting adjourned by general consent at
3:22 p.m. Mr. Lansing absent.
