The
Woodcraft Rangers provide students at Vernon City School an after school
program from 3:00 - 6:00 every weekday. The aim of the program is
to prevent school dropout, juvenile delinquency, gang involvement, and
substance abuse. Students receive homework help and club themes including
drama, karate, arts and crafts, drill team, cartooning, cooking, model
building and sports.
Through
the club programs, students are exposed to competence building activities
which allow them to discover new interests, develop self-esteem, and acquire
confidence from the mastery of new skills.
All Woodcraft
Rangers' programs are supplemented by field trips and weekend camping activities
for children and their parents. Woodcraft Rangers' programs are designed
to offer "hands on" activities to promote the development of positive social
attitudes and behavior. They strive to provide appropriate role models,
along with opportunities to succeed.
Woodcraft
Rangers is a nonprofit agency that is funded by the donations of various
contributors. Because the organization is nonprofit, 91% of the total
funds are allocated to on-site programs and services established for the
low income youth of Los Angeles. All possible donations are welcomed
and greatly appreciated.
