MINUTES
Mrs. Dellepiane called the meeting to
order at 3:35p.m. Everyone introduced themselves including
the new parent representatives. Present were Dellepiane,
T. White, L. Parsons, D. Doolittle, R. Akman, L. Cabral,
J. Plevack, J. Hoelscher, M. Edwards, J. Bruni, W. Kernkamp,
Jocelyn Morales, Nicole Casey, Yadira Llamas, S. Parker,
and Dino Stirpe. Parent Gloria Puente also arrived.
Those present confirmed the agenda and read over the minutes
of the September 28th meeting. Mr. Plevack offered a correction
to the minutes: He noted that it was Mrs. Dellepiane and
Mr. Ornelas who fought to get the bungalows placed on
the campus during the tiling project for classes that
must vacate their regular rooms. Also, Mrs. Parsons noted
that she was present at the September 28th meeting.
The September 28th minutes were approved as corrected.
For the Administrative Report, Mrs. Dellepiane reported
that the “Early Start Calendar” is not going
to start next year. The District has tabled it but will
continue to study it.
Our school plant irrigationt project continues. She said
that last year John Laue had written and won a grant of
$9,800 from the City of Los Angeles in conjunction with
“The Tree People” to improve the landscaping
on campus. This will be a Service Learning Project which
Dr. Wells and Mrs. Hackett are coordinating. It will be
a schoolwide project with students involved. She said
there will be a meeting soon.
For the Calendar, Term A ends on Wednesday, November 10th.
Thursday, November 11th, is the Veteran’s Day Holiday,
and Term B will begin on Friday, November 12th. The Homecoming
Dance will be on November 13th. Mrs. Doolittle reminded
us that November 16th and 17th will be the state mandated
days for the CAHSEE test for any Juniors who have not
passed the test.
Under Old Business, we discussed the continuing trash
problem which Mrs. Karahalios wants to focus on this year.
We talked about some new ideas for improving the situation.
Mr. Stirpe and the Leader-ship students have some plans.
Mr. Plevack said he hopes that when the new lunch tables
arrive, the pride level might rise. Mr. Kernkamp recommended
tracking the dollars saved, or other aspects of the problems
that trash creates, on a large poster. Mrs. Dellepiane
suggested having a committee with Mrs. Karahalios in charge
and the
Leadership students involved, and she
expressed thanks for the renewed enthusiasm.
Under New Business, Mr. Stirpe discussed the Pep Rally
set for the 10th of November. He said that sales of the
upcoming Home-coming Dance tickets have been the biggest
for the first week that they have had in recent years.
They are close to 3/4 of the way toward meeting the minimum
number of tickets required.
Mrs. Dellepiane spoke about the Categorical Programs that
the school receives funding for, which includes Title
1, Bilingual, and CSR funds. The Advisory Committees of
these programs make recommen-dations to the Site Council
for final approval. She also explained the handout about
Shared Decision Making and School-Based Management and
the duties of the Council. She explained that Budget Adjust-ments
may come up requiring decisions to move money from one
allocation to another. Laura Parsons asked if the SSC
members can get copies of the Budgets of the various categorical
programs, and Mrs. Dellepiane said “Of course.”
The next meeting will be November 30th at 3:30 in Room
157.
The meeting adjourned at 4:25p.m.
