In attendance: Attending: Jean Hoelscher, Karen

Lopez, Dino Stirpe, Cheryl Dellepiane, Lisa Karahalios,
Shala Balizadeh, Megan Brandt, Adalid Ramos, Josephina
Reynoso.
Ms. Dellepiane showed us our school’s accountability
report card. The district puts this together to help parents
decide where they want their kids to go under the “No
child left behind act.” Because of our outstanding
faculty, administration, students and programs, Verdugo
has been chosen as a receiver school. At the Road Show,
some parents opted for Verdugo based on our good reputation.
There were some inaccuracies and omissions that will be
corrected in the report.
Although University High School has been told by their
district superintendent that they are losing their Copernican
Schedule, we are not in imminent danger.
Verdugo Showcase Day might be modified so that it is
more of a function done on school time. It is not required
that the faculty participate, but it is greatly appreciated
that they help to make the day successful. Daytime Open
Houses have been held in the past and been successful,
so hopefully we will be able to garner parental involvement.
Organizers are looking in to combining Verdugo Day and
Showcase day.
The OCE copying machine had a major overhaul and is working
well. The one in the library, however, continues to be
problematic. If you need supplies for the duplicators
see Barbara in the title 1 office.
In order to lessen the amount teachers spend out of their
own pocket, please check to see if there is a fund to
pay for it. Make sure you check first to see Rocio Rodriguez
if there is a fund to pay for it before you put out your
own money. It was noted that Rocio is doing a wonderful
job.
There is a new office assistant named Mauro Gonzalez,
in the attendance office starting March 19th.
Members of the school community are being encouraged
to apply for 2-3 bathroom attendant positions. The eight
hour positions will monitor, clean and supply the bathrooms
so that more bathrooms can be open. (No more “I
had to walk across campus to go to the bathroom”
excuses from the students for 20 min. bathroom breaks.)
Student Body President Andrew Dayao addressed the school
board with the problem of not having hot H2O in many sinks
at the school.
Four members were selected for a consolidation program
for the school site council: Will Reinhardt, Danny Lopez,
Lisa Karahalios and Kaye Burr. Student reps are Andrew
Dayao, Adalid Ramos, Megan Brandt, Josephina Reynoso (alternative.)
On the Site council and SBM are, Robin Siegel-Meares,
Nicole Wallington, and Danny Kellogg. On only SBM Sue
Ladera. Martina Martin will represent the certificated
staff on both the Site and SBM Councils This plan consolidates
budget approval of other site plans. Advisory groups will
make recommendations and send them to the council for
approval. This omits duplication and consolidates school
goals.
We need new blood on the SBM council since we are losing
Charlie Noyes. We will be holding an election soon, so
please consider being a conduit for the needs of your
peers and the school and joining SBM. To entice you further,
it was voted that meetings go no further than 4:30pm.
It was stated that the CAHSEE testing was well organized
and the students took extra time offered because they
were motivated to pass.
Concern was expressed that there is too much truancy
in the 4th period 9th grade class and shock at how low
the students’ skills are, but the teachers are mostly
optimistic that it is helping, and will be done again
in the fall if we can find the $.
Leadership informed us that the Homecoming Queen’s
cape is now famous since it was used as a confessional
screen for the TV show American Dream. Leadership
is also hoping that Verdugo alumnus, Barry Larson who
works on the show will donate $ to the school.
The meeting was adjourned. Next meeting April 1. (no
fooling)
