The first SBM meeting of the school year was held at the
Verdugo Hilton (Rm. 126), great fun was had by all.
Leadership president Andrew Dayao revieiwed the schedule
of fall activities:
Sept. 11th memorial on Keltner Glen and planting of two
memorial rose bushes in the rose garden.
"Spirit Week" has been replaced by "Spirit
Fridays" spread over the month of October into November.
The Homecoming Parade on Nov 8th, and the Homecoming Dance
on Nov. 9th
Halloween costume contest on Halloween.
There was concern voiced over racy lyrics in a song played
at last year's pep rally. It was suggested and agreed
upon that teachers and advisors should closely monitor
music and presentations by students.
Starting Mon. 23rd of Sept. the Monday reading of the
bulletin will continue. Mr. Stirpe has worked to get the
bugs out of it. It will be done immediately at the start
of per. 2 so as not to interrupt class after it has started.
Mrs. Dellepiane thanked the staff for a smooth opening
to the school year which includes 100 more students than
the district had projected. We were also forwarned that
renorming has reared its ugly head.
The phone system is partially working. You can hook your
phones back up and call out through the office without
fear that the students can access the PA system. Room
to room calling has not been programmed yet because we
are waiting for training from the district. Eventually
you will be able to diall 911 directly. The system cannot
be set up for you to dial out directly. This concerns
the front office staff who fears they will be overtaxed
by dialing out for teachers.
If you call to report an absence, don't press 0, press
202 for the front office, otherwise you will get no response
before 7:30am, or will get the attendance or counselling
office after 7:30am.
Vickie Lopez presented proposal to get more instruments
for the band. She has had an increase in her class sizes
and is in desperate need of instruments. She has one flute
and thirty students who want to play flute. She also informed
us that the percussion ensemble came in second in So.
Cal., and most of the money for their competitions is
raised by the band members. She is also doing her best
to get community support.
If you have any SBM concerns please attend our next meeting
on Sept. 24th in room 126.
Have a great year!
