General
announcements:Our sports teams are off to a good start
this year. Come watch a game, your students appreciate
your attendance.
Enrollment
is now at 2208. That is about 100 more than last year.
We only got new CAP students from Eagle Rock (20).
We have
a new art/ESL teacher7Ms. Staley. VHHS now has 92 and
112 certificated positions.
Our students
did a great job last year: API score was up, the attendance
was up, the graduation rate was up, and the dropout rate
was down. Good job, students!!
In spite
of our large API gain, 18 points, not all of the student
subgroups met the "target goal improvement" set by the
state. Therefore we may not get any API money this year.
Oh well.
Plant information:
The A.C. is still being adjusted on a weekly basis. The
wiring is closer to be being done. The field speakers
are being updated. The auditorium sound system is being
updated. The asphalt; courts will be repaved soon ( lower
courts, behind the bleachers, and the dirt lot).
Thanks
to everyone for supporting the L.A. Times/KTLA charitable
campaign. As of Friday, September 2 1, about $ 2,500 had
been collected. Still to come were donations from the
YPC, and Asian Club.
UTLA News:
Not much happening. The election for the next UTFA president
is wide open. There is no favorite at this time. Not much
chance of a raise this year, maybe 1% if we are lucky.
In spite of the state giving the district a 2.8% COLA.
Another, oh well.
Title 1:
One half of the meal forms are in. The next half will
be more difficult and we all need to push hard to get
the forms completed and turned in.
Schwabe
books here Monday, October 1, with books for teachers
to purchase for a classroom library. Each teacher has
a $400 credit to use to purchase reading books.
John Ralles
knows a district person who might be able to fix up our
murals if we are interested. Yes, we are. Lets see what
happens.
The Leadership
class presented a plan for an outdoor pep rally November
2, the day of the homecoming game. It was tentatively
approved with Leadership coming back to the next meeting
with more details. They promise an exciting program this
time. Should we be doing a daily flag salute? A once weekly
flag salute? No consensus, but certainly any teacher and
class who wants to do a flag salute should do it.
Our new
electronic marquee sign should be here by December.
Assemblies:
We need
better supervision at assemblies - adults should be doing
what they are supposed to do. The administrative staff
will develop parameters and guidelines for assemblies:
entering, seating, behavior, exiting.
The gym
has a real problem with excessive heat and humidity. Mr.
reinhart will start keeping a log of the temperature and
humidity for a future report to the district.
The bell
schedule: Could we have a longer lunch and no nutrition?
Maybe, but.............
The meeting
ended at 4:35 PM
Next meeting
will be October 8. Leadership will present its refined
pep rally plan and the administration will present its
new plan for detention. Don't miss it.
