VERDUGO HILLS HIGH SCHOOL
On-Site Council Meeting
March 3, 2001
3:30 P.M. - Room 127

MINUTES

Term C ends April 6. April 5 & 6 are finals. Grades will be due Tuesday, April 17.

Spikes:A fashion statement or a menace? One student has already been scratched by another student's spiked jacket while passing on the stairs. We are concerned about spikes worn at school. There are too many opportunities for students to get damaged by spiked clothing.

A bulletin will be put out banning spikes on campus. Spiked students should be sent to the Dean.

It was suggested that the dress code be revisited and updated. Leadership will do an update and give their results to Mr. Koons. The Discipline Committee will look at the Leadership recommendations and report to the SBM Committee.

Ms. Dellepiane gave thanks to some of the many people here who do work above and beyond the call of duty. Recognized were: David Caesar for his work on the African Art display, Kay Burr for the untiring work on accreditation, The Math Department's robotics project, Dave Riemer for his work on creating Small Learning Communities at VHHS, Victoria Lopez for getting more first place awards for VHHS, Cathy Uchida and her students for running the marathon, Mike Koons for the playoff soccer team, The Winter Ball Committee , Dino Stirpe , and jenna Decker for creating a wonderful dance event, and Mark Woodhouse and Yvonne Mojica for their work .on the HSEE. Three cheers to all!

More Movie Madness: Inspector Mullinax, after reviewing how filming is done at LAUSD schools, has recommended to the district that all schools must go through the district when filming on campus. The district will keep 25% of the money and the school will get 75%.. The district rate for filming is $1700 a day. That includes setting up and cleaning up days.

The money goes into a special fund that is part of our Integrated Financial Statement and available online by one and all.

Even though we will get less money, we want to continue filming rather than other types of fund raising.

VHTV:The district and VHHS needs to find more classroom space. An increasing enrollment, class size reduction, and the new contract that states new teachers cannot travel have put a lot of pressure to find new rooms.

Do we need to reclaim the VHTV facility?

It was originally 2 classrooms and is in pretty good shape. Bungalows cost $ 1000,000 each. The district is aware that we have this space and AT&T has the resources to relocate.

We need the rooms for regular classes. It is time to ask AT&T to move.

The budget committee report of IMA and block grant money was submitted to the faculty.

An addendum: the calendar committee and the SBM requested that there be very few activities during term D. The work in the auditorium has made it impossible to schedule everything term C. The talent show and Asian pageant have been tentatively scheduled in term D not interfering with testing. Students are not to be out of class rehearsing or setting up until the actual day of the performance.

Attending the meeting were: Jan Hackett, Dare Doolitle, Richard Thomas, Mike Koons, Easy Delaney, Glenda Thomas, Cheryl Dellepiane, Marjorie Rennet., John Plevack, Fred Koegler, Dino Stirpe, Jim Nelson, Steven Vanover, Maria Manuel, and, yours truly, Charlie Noyes.

Next meeting will be March 2 6.
