Principal's Report: Thanks to Mr. Thomas for putting
together the Open house. Lots of good feedback from parents.
Last Fridax: the combination of the Columbine "anniversary"
and Hitler's birthday (?) created an environment where
the rumors and threats of school violence were spread
all over the country. Many students used this as an excuse
for a three day weekend and did not attend school Friday.
We had a campus lock down, all out of classroom personnel
were utilized, there were random wandings, extra school
police and LAPD -were available if necessarary.
There were no incidents, it was a very quiet day.
The band had a competition and came back with several
individual gold medals.
Leadership students helped with the Sunland-Tujunga Home
Tour and were complimented on their demeanor.
The new Assistant Principal has been selected. Next,
District B will sign off on our choice and send the name
to 450 N. Grand for final approval. We cannot announce
the name until we have received final approval.
The cafeteria manager was promoted and the new manager
will be Mrs. Hovestreydt.
API money: about $590 for staff members and about $165,000
for the school. On Monday, April 30, there will be a budget
committee meeting to begin to distribute this money. Some
will go for a new marquis sign and some is going to purchase
an SIS computer for the Dean's office. What should we
do with the rest?
UTLA report: The recent school board election came out
OK, hopefully we will have no major labor strife next
year.
Open House dates:we will look into having our Back to
School/Open House earlier in the fall as our schedule
moves quicker than the other schools. Also, we will try
to schedule the spring Open House/Back to School in March.
Staff Development/ Buy Back Days: We are planning the
have all three of our buy back days before school starts,
August 27, 28, 29. This would leave November 21, the day
before Thanksgiving, as an unassigned day. This is not
written in stone at this time. Staff development will
be organized by Co-Nect.
Dress Code: Mr. Koons and Dean Wells will be sending
a survey to parents to get their input into the new dress
code.
VHTV Building: May be shared with AT&T. Classrooms
during the day and VHTV at night. This will depend on
how much the rooms have to be modified to become classrooms
again.
Enrollment: 580 students are coming on busses, about
30%. The local enrollment is projected to increase by
85 students next year. There should be no new CAP students
sent here. The Academy is drawing students from the local
area.
Smokers: Mr. Plevack, Mr. Koegler, Dean Wells, and Mrs.
Hart have done a major intervention with a large group
of students hanging around the bleachers. Most of the
parents came to an intervention meeting.
Next meeting will be May 14.
Attending this meeting were: Laura Conklin, Glenda Thomas,
Marjorie Rennet, Richard Thomas, Yvonne Mojica, Fred Koegler,
