Dr. Turner announced his retirement from VHHS at the end of the current semester. A great fresh/soph football banquet was held last week. Many parents in attendance. The fresh/soph team won league for the second year in a row. Fred Koegler stated that his cross country teams did very well this year. The fresh/soph team won league and placed 7th in city. The fresh/soph basketball team won league as did our girls tennis. The girls volleyball team went to the playoffs for the first time in school history. Congratulations to Coach Will Reinhart. Jim Nelson stated that the fresh/soph football banquet was one of the best he has ever seen at VHHS.
Hector Ornelas discussed the hiring committees work in selecting a new APSSS. The committee reviewed over 10 applications and interviewed the top 4 candidates. A selection has been made but it must be approved by Superintendent Judy Burton. The paperwork will be delivered to the District B office tomorrow (12/5/00) and hopefully the new APSSS will be announced this week.
There are two weeks left before winter break (3 week vacation). School will reopen on January 8, 2001. All members of the site council are invited to breakfast on Friday, December 15, 2000. The VHHS Booster Club will again provide a holiday breakfast for all staff, parents, community, bus drivers and district personnel.
Charlie Noyes reviewed the UTLA-District contract negotiations. There is still no contract but there does seem to be some movement on the part of the District. Superintendent Romer is now talking about a 10% raise. Money is still the basic issue. Informational picketing will go on in front of school on Wednesday, December 6, from 7:15 7:45 a.m. and after school. The State is also interested in the 225 million it gave to LAUSD for salary increases. The State also gave extra dollars for Special Education programs that should also free up money for teacher raises.
Mr. Noyes proposed that Cheryl Dellepiane become the next principal of VHHS using the LEARN/SBM waiver process (see below). Mrs. Dellepiane spoke about her qualifications and her vision of the school She has had extensive experience in the Attendance Office as APSSS and as an Assistant Principal in dealing with CAP/SAT/PWT, LEARN, CONECT, Technology, Digital High School, E-Rate etc. etc. She believes that the district should help VHHS with extra money to upgrade the plant. She has worked hard in trying to make VHHS a Title I school. Some questions were asked of her by Dr. Wells, Jim Nelson and Dick Thomas. A personal statement will be available to all faculty. Mrs. Dellepiane excused herself from the meeting and the Site Council discussed her qualifications. At the conclusion of the discussion there was unanimous consensus that Cheryl Dellepiane should replace Gary Turner as the next principal of VHHS. The waiver procedures will begin tomorrow and the entire staff and students will be kept informed of the procedures.
New business discussions involved:
1.Half-term P.E. classes; 2.5 credit classes. Dare Doolittle must be involved in any change of curriculum and/or credit.
2.Mr. Fahy concerned about easy access to faculty parking lot. Some suspicious characters were looking in cars. The lot cannot be locked but Dr. Wells will try dialogue with Officer Romero adn staff how we can accommodate need to check parking lot periodically. Mr. Loy mentioned that a closed circuit video camera that could survey the entire lot would cost approximately $400.00
3.All faculty should be reminded to secure/lock classrooms and closets as many rooms are being left open by workmen installing safety technology. The administration continually points out this fact to the construction crew and LAUSD workers. the cheerleader ?boom box? was recently taken from Mr. Thomas? room.
4.Dr. Wells wants all teachers to continue sending yellow tardy notices. It is helping. Dr. Wells also trying to get Superintendent Romer to make VHHS a model for LAUSD schools.

Mrs. Dellepiane knows the VHHS staff. She understands our problems. She understands how to overcome our problems and move VHHS even further ahead.
To keep what we have right now and to improve even more, Mrs. Dellepiane should become our next principal.
