WRITE ON!!!

Are you on board with the VHHS writing program? All the evidence shows the best way to improve a school is with a school wide writing program. Its important that as many teachers as possible reinforce our English teachers by using the VHHS writing program in their classes. Remember, the essays can be written as homework so they don't take up your class time.

See Peter Holbrook or Trent Hall if you want more information on the VHHS writing program.

LIFE

"Life is no straight and easy corridor along which we travel free and unhampered, but a maze of passages, through which we must seek our way, lost and confused, now and again checked in a blind alley.

But always, if we have faith, a door will open for us, not perhaps one that we ourselves would ever have thought of, but one that will ultimately prove good for us."

A.J. Cronin

"Reward excellent failures."

"Punish mediocre successes."

Tom Peters

Change Again and Again

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable man persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the un-reasonable man.

ATTRIBUTES OF THOSE WHO MADE THE 10TH GRADE HISTORY BOOK

History books are not flawless. Or free of controversy. Nonetheless, they represent a sort of "societal consensus" about what/who is important. So... who makes it into the Big Hall of Fame? Into your daughter's tenth grade history text? Roosevelt. King. Kennedy(s). Galileo. Einstein. Etc. And traits they share--more or less--in common?

Try these:

* Committed.

* Determined to Make a Difference.

* Focused.

* Passionate!

* Risk Seekers.

* Irrational about the righteousness of their life's project.

* Ahead of their time./Paradigm Busters!

* Impatient. (But, paradoxically, prepared to stay the course.)

* Action-Obsessed! (Mantra: Ready. Fire! Aim.)

* Made l-o-t-s of people mad!

* Creative./Quirky./Peculiar.

* Rebels. (Scientists and artists, as well as social- political types.)

* In The Establishment's face./Flouted the chain of command.

* Irreverent./Disrespectful.

* Masters of Improvisation/Thrive on Chaos./E-x-p-l-o-i-t Chaos!

* Ask Forgiveness > Seek Permission.

* Bone Honest!

* Flawed. (Big pluses, big minuses.)

* "Tuned into" followers' needs and aspirations.

* Absurdly good at what they do!
