1.
Tardy Sweeps will be conducted daily for Periods
2 and 3. Teachers should shut their classroom doors and
send all students to the Student Cafeteria. Consistency
is important in changing student behavior.
2.
Beginning Thursday, November 17, 2005, the Tardy Count
Down will be replaced with one-minute of snappy, inspirational
music. Once the music begins, students will have exactly
one-minute to get to class. We will experiment with music
for three days: Thursday (11/17), Friday (11/18), and
Monday (11/21).
3.
Daily Tardy Room Rosters are no longer being placed in
individual teacher boxes. Instead, Daily Tardy Room Rosters
will be placed on the front counter in the Main Office.
Please take one if you would like to see which students
were caught in the Tardy Sweeps.
4.
Period 1 Tardy Procedures-- Until a more thorough Period
1 Tardy Policy is devised, teachers should use the Tardy
Logs provided by the Dean’s Office. If students
arrive between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m., mark them on the Tardy
Log and keep students in class. If students arrive after
this time, please send them to the Attendance Office for
a VHHS Truancy Ticket. The Dean’s Office will collect
Tardy Logs every Friday from the classroom. Although we
are not conducting Tardy Sweeps Period 1, it would be
helpful if teachers would shut their doors (but leave
the doors unlocked!) so that students receive a consistent
message that Verdugo classes begin when the Tardy Bell
rings. Please do not lock students out of their classrooms
during Period 1. Surprise Period 1 Tardy Sweeps will be
conducted randomly. Please listen to the PA for information
about Surprise Period 1 Tardy Sweeps.
5.
Please accept students back to class when they present
a Tardy Unexcused Pass. Normally, students will present
a work sample (Math or English assignment) and a Tardy
Unexcused Pass; but, not always... The Tardy Unexcused
Pass alone is sufficient for students’ re-admittance
to class.
The Tardy Sweeps’ success is directly related to
the consistency of our message. It is important that all
faculty and staff actively urge students to arrive to
class on time. When the Tardy Bell rings, please support
the program by shutting your classroom door.
