Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante visited
Verdugo Hills High School on February 24th to encourage
the Seniors to apply for the Cal Grant Program. The Lt.
Governor was accompanied by State Superintendent of Public
Instruction, Jack O'Connell, and our Board of Education
Member Julie Korenstein. Councilmember Wendy Greuel also
came to the assembly held for the Seniors in McGroarty Auditorium.
The Verdugo Hills Band played before the speeches given
by Bustamante, O'Connell, Korenstein, and Greuel.

The dignitaries answered questions from the audience and
then visited with students and faculty during a lively photo
session. Principal Cheryl Dellepiane made this observation:
"I was very proud of the gracious and enthusiastic
manner in which our students repsonded to this outstanding
event. Traditionally, about 90% of our graduating seniors
plan to enroll in post-secondary programs, and this year's
class is no exception. Not only will the Cal Grant Program
help them realize their dreams, but they also have the opportunity
to apply for a variety of scholarships offered by community
organizations, such as the Sunland-Tujunga Coordinating
Council, the Rotary, the Kiwanis, and the Organization of
Business and Professional Women, to name just a few."
