DRAMA and PERFORMANCE ART
is a tradition at Verdugo Hills High School that extends
back to the founding of the school over sixty years ago.
Prior to construction of McGroarty Auditorium, the school
drama productions were held on the stage at Pinewood Elementary
School.

Our theater is named for John Steven McGroarty
who, among his other accomplishments, also authored a number
of popular plays that were regularly performed in the community.
Phil Keltner, for whom Keltner Glen adjacent to the theater
is named, also was very involved with Verdugo's drama program
in the early years, producing and directing school productions
from his wheelchair.
Over the years, a wide assortment of plays and musicals have been performed by our students including such classics as "Brigadoon," "Princess and the Pea," "Oklahoma," "Dracula," "Our Town" and "The Odd Couple" among many, many others.

The plot thickens on the set of the 1998 production of Neil Simon's "Rumors."
