T.E.P. - Topanga Enrichment Programs
2001-2002

NEW! Here's a great way to donate books to the school library online!

The School Librarian, Ms. Metzenbaum, has created an online Wish List at Amazon.com. She has selected many new books that will enhance the reading experiences of our children, including Gerald McBoing Boing by Dr. Seuss, The Wanderer by Sharon Creech, and Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters : An African Tale by John Steptoe.

To donate one of these or one of the many other books on the list, Please Click Here. You will go directly to Ms. Metzenbaum's Wish List page at Amazon, where placing an order is as simple as clicking a few buttons. These books are of Library Quality, and prices are reasonable. Some are even sold at a discount by Amazon. Thank You!

T.E.P. - Topanga Enrichment Programs

A Brief History

Until the end of the 1999/2000 school year the two parent volunteer organizations T.E.P. (formerly the Topanga School Booster Club) and Parent Teachers Organization (P.T.O) had been working side by side at Topanga Elementary School. Many parents were confused about the different responsibilities of the two organizations and about why they were asked twice to contribute money. As of the beginning of the Fall 2000 school year T.E.P. and P.T.O. were merged and are now called T.E.P.

The New T.E.P. organizes school volunteers to raise funds to support aspects of the school not covered by the LAUSD. Fundraisers include the Halloween Carnival, Gift Wrap & Magazine Drives, Book Fair, The Annual Silent Auction, the School Directory, and ongoing events like SCRIP sales (which you can use to purchase groceries and other stuff) and individual family pledge drives. Please support the T.E.P. as much as you are able - you not only benefit your child but every other child in the school.

The money raised supports the top three priorities on our parent survey and more:

  • two hours P.E. weekly for each student
  • Teacher Aides for all classrooms
  • full-time librarian and Library with over 6000 books
  • 3-4 computers in every classroom and computer consultant to maintain and upgrade the system
  • vital office and school supplies not provided by LAUSD
T.E.P. is a non-profit incorporated organization with the purpose of planning, funding and operating supplemental educational programs to enrich the curriculum of all the students of Topanga Elementary School. Decreased funding from the Los Angeles Unified School District have increased the need for outside funding dramatically. We moved from a $ 6,000 annual budget in the 80's to a $100,000 budget for the past two years.

The T.E.P. board members for 2001/2002 are:
Co-Presidents Jo Barry & Lisa Villasenor
Secretary Laurie Edgerton
Treasurer Margreet Ray
Technology Susanne Henning
PE/Emergency Preparedness Sabine Stork
Fundraiser Chair Azmina Kanji
Pledge Drive Karla Morrison & Lauren Shafer
