Technology News
2000 - 2001

In 1999-2000 the Technology Committee (a small group of teachers, parents and Stephen La Rocque - our technology consultant) worked hard to upgrade hardware and software, to network the school, to connect the school to the Internet, and to attract more money for technology improvement (via grant writing and T.E.P. fund raising) for staff development, teacher monitors and other equipment. Improvements include 5 new iMacs for the school, and Internet connection in grades 3,4 and 5! Thank you Stephen for all your hard work!!!

This year we are planning to finish the school network and to connect all classrooms to the Internet. Through the financial support of a small grant from the California Department of Education we will organize a hands-on in-service teacher training in the use of Apple Works, Hyper Studio & the Internet to enhance the use of the computer as part of the curriculum. We would like to train more parents and teacher's aides so that they can assist teachers and students working on the computer.

The school web site is currently being updated with the goal of providing an ongoing resource for information about school events, important dates, and school activities. As the weeks go by, we will continue to add more information and features to the site, to provide a convenient resource to keep parents informed and help our children learn more about using the Internet.

Meanwhile, we need more parents to join the Technology Committee. You do not have to be a computer whiz. Please also send in your pledge to the Topanga Enrichment Program (TEP) so we can continue to afford our wonderful computer consultant.
