Literacy Coach

Irene Saluzzi
My name is Irene Duarte Saluzzi. I am a teacher
dedicated to instilling the love of reading and life-long learning in Sylvan
Park's students. I am one of the Literacy Coaches assisting with the implementation
of the Open Court Reading Program. My work includes preparing and presenting
professional development to Sylvan Park staff and district teachers. I also
guide paraprofessionals and volunteers in the reading tutorial program.
My career at Sylvan Park has spanned a wonderful
31 years. I began as a T.A. and then transitioned to teaching grades 1-3.
I've also taught the pre-kindergarten/parent education program.
I am a native of Los Angeles, California. I graduated
from Mount St. Mary's College, studied Spanish in Mexico City, received
my teaching credential from Cal State Los Angeles, and recently completed
course work for a reading certificate through UCLA.
I am grateful for my husband, Michael and the gift
of laughter, my 2 grown daughters, and my 2 precious grandchildren. I love
to spend time with family and friends. I enjoy playing tennis, gardening,
and traveling to unusual places around the world.
