Curriculum
Rosewood Avenue provides a rigorous and challenging curriculum designed to meet the needs of all learners
Language Arts
Treasure’s is the newly adopted Language Arts series for Reading Language Arts and English Language Development. It offers a rigorous program that allows for differentiation to meet the needs of all learners.
Math
enVisionMath, published by Scott Foresman· Addison Wesley, the LAUSD adopted math curriculum used for grades K-5. This series not only offers a rigorous and challenging curriculum for high achieving students, but it also provides a supportive learning environment that motivates and engages English Learners, Standards English Learners, and Students with Disabilities. Hands-on activities as well as online learning ensure success for all students.
Science
Foss Kits provide students with an inquiry method and hands-on approach to science. Students have the opportunity to participate in a yearly science fair. Our “edible garden” provides students the opportunity to also study solar energy, composting, and botany.
Arts Program
Because our mission is to educate the whole child, we understand that children have different learning styles and needs. Rosewood Avenue is pleased to provide students with the ARTS PROGRAM, previously known as the ARTS PROTOTYPE PROGRGAM. Children take part in Dance, Theatre, and Visual Arts throughout the school year. Artists and entertainers also perform at various school assemblies. Children in grades 3-6 also have the opportunity to take part in an instrumental music program. A vocal program is also funded by the Friends of Rosewood. We also have an after school instrumental program for children in grades 1-6. Please see links "After School Orchestra".
Physical Education
Rosewood has a full time PE coach that provides a standards based cirriculum while focusing on healthy eating habits and an active lifestyle.
Parent involvement
Parent involvement is crucial to a child’s academic and social achievement. We welcome the home/school connection and encourage all Rosewood friends and families to Get Involved!
Special Education
Our special day class and resource program are an integral part of the Rosewood community. Our staff develops learning plans for each child as outlined in their Individualize Education Plan (IEP).
Rosewood has many fully-included special needs students who spend the entire day in general education. Our staff collectively understands that special education is a service; it is not a place.
English Language Development (ELD)
Rosewood’s highly qualified staff uses the proficiency levels aligned to the ELD Standards. Those proficiency levels are the pathway to the English Language Arts (ELA) Grade-Level Content Standards.
Our goal is for all English Learners to acquire high levels of English proficiency to meet grade-level standards in all content areas as rapidly as possible. All English learners are expected to make progress in acquiring English and are given full access to grade-level curriculum. Students who do not make adequate progress are provided with opportunities to receive intervention services.
Technology
The students at Rosewood have ongoing opportunities to improve their computer literacy with regular visits to our computer lab. Additionally, each classroom has at least two computers and a printer. Rosewood has wireless capability. Our students also have the use of iPads in class.
Gifted A Talented Education Program (GATE)
The District's instructional programs for gifted and talented students are based on the principles that all students are to receive an education appropriate to their individual capabilities, interests, and needs, and that students have learning opportunities that help develop their abilities to the highest level. Because gifted and talented students generally demonstrate high performance or capacity for high performance beyond age/grade expectations, they are atypical learners who require specialized learning experiences beyond the regular curriculum. Identification of the gifted child begins in Kindergarten.
