Breakfast, the most important meal of the day!
Children who eat breakfast have improved memory, problem-solving skills, verbal fluency and creative abilities. Make sure your child has time for breakfast at home or take advantage of the School Breakfast Program.  |

Set the Example!
Children tend to copy eating habits of other family members, so setting an example of healthy food choices is very important. |

| Vary your Veggies & eat many Fruits. |
Vegetables: Go dark green and orange with your vegetables—eat spinach, broccoli, carrots, and sweet potatoes. |
Fruits: Eat them at meals, and at snack time, too. Choose fresh, frozen, canned, or dried, and go easy on the fruit juice. |

Physical activity, get lots of it EVERYDAY!
• Limit sedentary time: Television, Computers, and Video Games.
• Engage in physical activities with your child on a daily basis.
Don’t forget to “mix it up!” (Walk the dog, go for a jog, go for a
bike ride, climb stairs, go hiking at your local park, play tag,
hula-hoop, or jump-rope. You can even play your favorite CD
and have a family Dance Contest!
• Enroll your child in a sport such as soccer, baseball, basketball. (Check with your local park to enroll him/her). |
