STUDENT'S BILL OF RIGHTS
I have the right to be happy andtreatedwith care and understanding.
I have the right to be respected as a person.
I have the right to be safe.
I have the right to be able to hear what is being said and be heard.
I have the right to learn.
So that no student is denied their rights, it is necessary to establish and enforce the basic school rules in our Responsibility Code.
RESPONSIBILITY CODE
This Student Responsibilitiy Code was developed by members of the Student Council, members of the school staff, and parent representatives from the School Site/LEARN Leadership Council. Please read and discuss these guidelines with your child.
GENERAL SCHOOL RULES
1. Students should arrive at school between 7:10 a.m. and 7:40 a.m.. Breakfast is served from 7:10 to 7:36 a.m..
2. It is illegal to bring to school or possess drugs, medication, dangerous objects or weapons (for example, matches, caps, firecrackers,knives, "replicas" [toy guns], etc.). Confiscated items will not be returned.
3. Bicycles, scooters or skateboards may not be ridden on school grounds. Students who ride their bicycles must wear a helmet (legal requirement), park and lock the bike in a designated rack.
4. Students should not be in the parking areas before, during or after school. Parents should not drive into the parking lots or block the driveways to drop off or pickup children.
5. Students should not bring ANY items (i.e. toys, make-up, etc.) not required for classroom use to school.
6. Students may bring a HEALTHY snack (no candy, gum, etc.) and eat in designated area.
GUIDELINES FOR STUDENT BEHAVIOR
Students will:
1. Respect and be courteous to others (students and adults). (No profane language and/or gestures.)
2. Respect, keep clean and take care of all school property.
3. Use good manners.
4. Play in assigned areas, use good sportsmanship and follow rules.
DISCIPLINE PLAN
Students who do not live up to their responsibilities and who break the school rules will face consequences for their behavior. These include the following:
1. Warning/Reminder
2. Loss of privileges
3. Staying after school (parents will be notified if child will remain more than ten minutes)
4. Notice to parents by telephone or letter
5. Parent Conference
6. Referral to Assistant Principal/Principal
GROUNDS FOR SUSPENSION
1. Threaten, attempt or cause physical injury to another person.
2. Possess, sell or furnish any firearm, knife, explosive or other dangerous object.
3. Possess, use, sell or be under the influence of a controlled substance, an alcoholic beverage or intoxicant.
4. Commit robbery or extortion.
5. Cause or attempt to cause damage to school or private property.
6. Steal or attempt to steal school or private property.
7. Possess or use tobacco.
8. Commit an obscene or prejudiced act or engage in habitual profanity or vulgarity.
9. Offer, furnish or sell any drug paraphernalia.
10. Disrupt school activities or willfully defy the authority of school personnel.
