Principal's Message

Welcome to Ritter Elementary School’s updated website! This splendid 80 year old school is nestled in the heart of Watts, California, where children come first and rigorous teaching and learning prevail! Our school community of 412 students and approximately 50 staff members offer a friendly, welcoming, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment. Fostered, daily, is the belief that all of our children are brilliant and that all of are children can and will learn! The Ritter staff constantly stresses to students the importance of being lifelong learners and having the ability to succeed in the changing world of tomorrow.

This school year, as one of ten of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s Partnership for Los Angeles Schools, Ritter Teachers have spent many hours learning about and focusing upon “Criteria for Quality Classroom Instruction” which includes: Student Expectations, Classroom Environment, Student Engagement, Academic Rigor, Relevance and Relationships.

The staff is involved in ongoing teacher collaboration as a group and by grade levels. There has been extensive study of literacy and writing this school year. Our instructional strategies have been primarily driven by data analysis of student’s test scores and periodic assessments.

We are committed to communicating with and engaging parents as partners in their children’s education. With these efforts having been put in place, parent involvement has been on the increase this school year.

We strive daily to assist students in becoming confident and joyful learners!
