Seventh Grade Health/Life Science

Course content is aligned with the California Teaching Standards for Science, Grade 7 – emphasis on Life Science includes units on Earth and Physical Sciences.  This course seeks to develop the students’ abilities to understand and apply knowledge concerning the interaction between living things and their environment.  Additional topics addressed are the fundamental life processes and classification of living organisms.  The development, structure, function and behavior of the human body, how living things reproduce and maintain their species, nutrition and intelligent health habits, and the physical, mental and social dimensions of wellness are also addressed.  Students produce research projects, participate in lab studies, and elevate technological skills as they enhance their scientific knowledge.

Eighth Grade Physical Science

Course content is aligned with the California Teaching Standards for Science, Grade 8– emphasis on Physcal Science. This course seeks to develop the students’ abilities to understand the properties of matter, systems of classification, and the relationship between matter and energy and their affects on the behavior of objects in our universe.   Kinds of atoms and their properties, order and arrangement, changes of states of matter and energy, and the interaction between humans and their environment are studied.

Understanding and application of scientific concepts are taught using observation and experimentation, text and literature based research, computer and Internet research, proper and safe use of materials, and applying scientific methods to investigations.  Students learn the importance of technological advancements that are the result of applying scientific principles. Students are given the opportunity to engage in the higher order thinking skills of evaluation, analysis, and synthesis as they investigate and report various aspects of their scientific studies.
