Principal’s Message:

I would like to thank all those people that made our Career/College Day a success, this includes teachers, their guest speakers, the parent support group, the various schools, occupational centers and community colleges that attended and office staff for assisting in the event.

I would also like to remind all stakeholders that next month, Odyssey High School will have its Initial WASC Accreditation Visit.  I hope we can all demonstrate the quality, standards-based education that Odyssey High School provides and the hard work demonstrated by staff, students, parents, and community members.  Its time to showcase what we all do best, educate and learn!

-Dr. Elsa Mendoza, Principal

School Calendar Please see the attached calendar for important school events.

Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Accreditation

As you might already know, Odyssey High School is going through the initial WASC accreditation process this school year.  Information about this process has been distributed to students, staff members and parents.  Enclosed is basic information on the accreditation process and the schools vision and Expected School-wide Learning Results.

We encourage all stakeholders including students, parents and community members to be involved in the process!

We continue some of the Frequently Asked Questions:

Does Odyssey High School have to do it?

Accreditation is a voluntary, non-governmental process that plays an important role in developing and maintaining the high quality of education in this country.  The majority of LAUSD high schools are WASC accredited and WASC schools acknowledge and accept each other’s course and credits for the most part.  Certain universities and colleges will only accept coursework from an accredited school. Also some scholarships and grants are only given to students that have completed their courses in a WASC accredited school.

When is Odyssey High School going to be visited?

On Wednesday, March 7, 2007, a WASC Visiting Chairperson will visit the school and conduct a day long visit of the school which includes a detailed interview with the principal, teachers, students and parents of the school. They will determine if Odyssey High School fulfills the highest standards of education. Shortly after their visit, Odyssey High School will receive notice if we have received an interim, candidacy or denial for WASC accreditation with a review visit three years afterwards.

School Holiday – President’s Day

There will be no classes held on Monday, February 19, 2007 in observance of President’s Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, February 20, 2007.
