OUR SCHOOL STORY AND VISION

School Story

Normandie Avenue Elementary School is located in South-Central Los Angeles, a short distance south of the Los Angeles Coliseum and USC. The ethnic composition appears to be undergoing a transition in the direction of a majority Hispanic population. Currently, African American and Hispanic students are equally represented at approximately 50% each. Parents are concerned about the education of their children as evidenced by parent representation at conferences, school performances, programs, meetings, and as volunteers. As a LEARN community, we recognize the importance of a strong partnership between parents, school and community.

Normandie Avenue School is a community that promotes a learning environment in which all students will achieve to their highest potential. At Normandie, our goal is to motivate students to become responsible, life long learners which will allow them to positively contribute to our global society.

Vision

The vision of Normandie Avenue School is to provide students with a quality education, enabling them to become productive citizens of the global society. All students will achieve academically and socially in a challenging, nurturing, and integrated learning environment Students will inspired to make responsible choices and to be prepared to successfully meet the challenge of a highly technological future.

Beliefs

- We believe that the school is an integral part of the community and that community members are necessary partners in the education of children.

- We believe that professional conduct will foster respect for each other and create a positive environment.

- We believe that change is positive. Creativity is encouraged, and new ideas and experiences provide opportunities for growth.

- We believe that diversity is a strength and that by enhancing each students self-esteem all students will achieve their highest potential.

- We believe that instruction should be culturally responsive, compatible with values of students' own cultures and aimed at improving academic learning.

- We believe that all students possess multiple intelligence.

- We believe that alt students must develop skills that will allow them to function in a technologically changing society.
