Mr. Jimenez's Class Work

Santa Cruz by M. Z.
The mission that I’m studying is Santa Cruz. The mission was founded by
Father Fermin Lasuen. The mission was founded on August 28, 1791. The mission
is located in Mission Hill overlooking the city of Santa Cruz on north shore
of Monterey Mission Santa Cruz is the 12th mission built out of the 21 Mission.
My mission is beautiful because they kept it clean all the time. It’s
close to the Pacific Ocean. The mission is surrounded by the redwood and trees.
In 1818 pirate Bouchard was spotted of the coast. They returned they found that
the mission had been plundered but not by the pirate Bouchard. They had to travel
53.15. Mission Santa Cruz was one of the first to be secularized. I would like
to visit my mission when I’m off track.

San Luis Mission
The mission I am learning about is San Luis Rey. The person who founded the
mission is Father Fermin Lasuen on June 13, 1798. San Luis is located on a hill
in the town of San Luis Rey. My mission is the eighteenth mission. One of the
churches was built in form of a cruciform which is shaped like a cross. Gardens
as well as for pools were used for bathing laundry. An intricate system supplied
water for the mission. A great quadrangle was 500 feet on a side. Although the
last mission to be founded in the south, San Luis Rey the “king of the
Mission” came to be the largest and richest of all in California. San
Luis Rey, is
the largest mission in the United States, it was the last mission founded by
Father Fermin, in June 1798. The buildings were arranged around a 500 by 500
foot quadrangle. It is still being restored today. It is cared for the people
when it used to belong to the parish.

The Mission by E. H.
The Mission I am working on is San Luis Rey. It was found on
June 13, 1798 By Fermin Lasuen. His nickname was The King of Missions. San Luis
Rey was the 18th mission. It is located on 4050 Mission Avenue Street on a hill.
The Mission was torn up so when they found it they rebuild it so it can look
nice again. The Indian tribe was Luiseno. In 1832 the Indians took over the
mission. San Luis Rey was the most violent mission. In 1834 the Indians left
the mission. Abraham Lincoln agreed to force the Indians to leave. That is why
they left. San Luis Rey was known as the King of the Missions. The Missions
are cool because it’s a motel and a church put together in one. This is
so cool that I want to go there on a field trip to see it in real life. It was
named after Louis IX, King of France. I like learning about missions.

The Beautiful San Juan Bautista Mission by E.C.
The mission I am learning about is the San Juan Bautista Mission.
The mission sits on the San Andreas fault! Then Father Lausen arrived for the
dedication on June 24, 1797. The first baptism was that of an Indian kid about
ten years old, happened two weeks later. The first white baptism was that of
a son of the corporal. The first funeral was in September, was for the corporal,
s infant son. By these easy acts of faith. Unknowingly, the padres had found
the mission directly on great earth quakes fault. Sometimes there were as much
as six earth quakes a day. Walls of buildings were split from top to bottom,
and great cracks appeared in the ground. Ignoring the danger, a church began
to rise from the same place in 1803. It was to be the biggest in the chain 72
times 188 feet, with three aisles and walls three feet thick. However, the big
earthquake of 1906 made abandonment of the outside aisles, and the filling of
the arches separating the aisles. Thomas Dock, a sailor from Boston who hopped
in Monterey in 1816, built and decorated the reeds behind the altar in the new
church. He is thought to have been the first American settler in California.
The original tiles are still on the floor of the church.

Indians are living in there own boundaries. And I think Father Fermin Lausen
found this mission.

The Mission by G. B.
The mission I am writing about is Santa Barbara, the queen of missions. Fermin
Francisco founded the mission on December 4 , 1786.
It was located on a hill at the end of Laguna Street of Santa Barbara.
Santa Barbara was the tenth mission.
I think that the mission was hard to build for the people who built it. The
church was destroyed in the earthquake. It was the fourth to stand on its site
.They were rebuilding it in 2 years. A lot of people said that the Santa Barbara
was a beautiful
Mission. The new church stood firm for over a hundred years. The bell towers
of Santa Barbara was so familiar the people said that it was very lovely and
they liked it very much. Santa Barbara had the world’s famous bell towers.
In Santa Barbara a lot of people thought that Fermin was going to be famous.
People thought that the Santa Barbara Mission was the biggest mission. One of
the facts is that Santa Barbara was a queen of the missions.

THE BEAUTIFUL MISSION SANTA INEZ by C. T.
The Santa Inez mission was founded on September 17, 1804. The
person that found it was Father Estevan Tapis. In English it means Saint Agnes.
In Spanish it means Santa Inez. Santa Inez has been called the Hidden of the
mission.
Building programs was not complete. It
Tumbled to the ground in the earthquake. Then there began trouble with the Indians;
after Mexico became independent. The government cased to support the Army. Soldiers
in California needed to live off the Labor of Mission Indians. The Franciscans
and their successors operated the collese and controlled the land for years.
The Santa Inez Mission was lonely with no visitors. The location of Santa Inez
founded in a well valley. Restoration of the Clorets wing is now complete to
the original 19th arch. The Modern town of today adjoins the grounds of the
old missions.
Resentment against the soldiers ran very high among these Native Americans.
Despite this show of devotion to the padres ,rebellious neophytes had had enough
of mission life . Some 36,000 acres of land confiscated from the mission where
given to the bishop for a college of religious education.

The Mission by W. A.
The Mission I picked was the San Diego de Acala because it was the first mission
in California.
It was founded by Junipero Serra. It was founded in July 16, 1769. It was located
six miles away from San Diego on Presido Hill overlooking Mission Valley. I
think the people who built the missions were very smart. San Diego de Acala
was the first mission to be built. When the other missions were built, San Diego
de Acala became Mother of the Alta Missions. The missions are important. In
1834, San Diego began to start their secularization. Soon the missions started
irrigating fields. In 1775, the missions were attacked by Indians. The next
two missions built was San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo, and San Antonio de Padua.
The local Indians built special missions.

San Juan Capistrano by S. B.
The mission I am studying is San Juan Capistrano.
Father Sierra founded the mission. It was founded on November 1, 1776. It was
located in the community of San Juan Capistrano on Interstate 5 just off U.S.
HIGHWAY 101. Of the 21 missions founded by the Spanish this mission is the 7th
mission. I think this mission
It is fun and I like it .The little chapel remaining is called Fr. Sierra’s
church, because it is the only building still standing anywhere. The Indians
attacked which had killed one of the padres.

San Fernando by N. D. L.
The mission I’m learning about is San Fernando. The building was founded
by Father Fermin Larsen. My Mission was founded on September 8, 1797. It is
located on Mission Drive, 1 1/2 miles west of the city of San Fernando. San
Fernando is the seventeenth of the twenty-one Missions. I think that my mission
was a huge house that had a big pond. The padres sought a location for another
mission because of the long journey between San Gabriel and San Buenaventura.
The economy at the Mission of San Fernando was similar to the other missions
in that they planted crops of wheat and corn.
