The Geometry class had
the opportunity to do some craft work creating these striking
wireframe polyhedra out of drinking straws
and string. The shapes are stellated icosahedra: icosahedra have
twenty sides each, and the stellated variety has a pyramidal
spike jutting from each face, making the completed shape appear
starlike. Drinking straws of various sizes were cut to size by
the students and then tied together with string. The final products
were light enough to be hung over the students' heads, on the
ceiling of the classroom.
