Professor David Helfand, Chair of the Department of Astronomy and astrophysics at Columbia University, came to speak to the HGM. He spoke to the student body about the Drake Equation, which attempts to approximate the number of communicating civilizations within a galaxy. He also briefly commented on the life cycle of a star and the nature of neutrinos. Afterwards, professor Helfand spoke to a smaller group of students for an hour, elaborating about subatomic particle physics. |
