Miramonte School Library

Click here to view a list of recommended core literature in English and Spanish books that you can enjoy reading with your child.

Our Library was funded by the Wonder of Reading Program as well as the fund-raising efforts of the students and staff at Miramonte Elementary School.  this program provides both materials as well as trained volunteers to work with schools and students to increase reading in Southern California Schools.

The Miramonte School Library is open from 7am until 4pm every school day for students, parents, and staff.  Books are available on thousands of topics from fiction to history to science.  Everyone is welcome.

Studies show that students whose parents read to them regularly are more successful in school.  Parents are invited to come in after school with their children for an afternoon of reading.  Titles are available in both English and Spanish.

Homework assistance is available after school until 4pm.  If your child fails to complete homework assignments or requires tutoring in any subject area, have them stop by the library for help.  It's a quiet and friendly place.

We are lucky to have a beautiful library filled with thousands of new books.  In order too keep books in good condition, though, we must all remember to use proper book handling procedures.  When caring for a book, remember the following:

1. Be sure your hands are clean.
2. Never read a book while eating or drinking.
3. Never lend your book to another person.  Let them check it out.
4. Turn pages carefully.
5. Never throw a book.
6. The average cost of a library book is $20

The library regularly sponsors contests for reading and writing.  In  March, 2003, more than 50 students won baseball tickets by participating in a poster and essay contest in honor of Cesar Chavez, whose birthday was celebrated as a California State holiday on April 1.

In April 2002, Miramonte's first Read Around the World competition was held.  Classes competed to see who could read the most books about cultures and countries from around the world in a two-week period.  Winning classrooms were treated to a popcorn video party.
