A.C.T. is a parental responsibility
program sponsored by the District Attorney's Office in partnership
with school administrators and teachers.
Truancy develops from a history of excessive absenteeism.
Today's truant is tomorrow's criminal.
A specially assigned deputy district attorney is now
in your school to address the issue of excessive absenteeism.
Parents should send their children to school to improve
their children's quality of life and to ensure success in their children's
future. Education is as essential as food, clothing and shelter in a
child's life.
If problems are interfering with the ability of a child
to attend school, the district Attorney will track the attendance of
students with attendance problems.
Along with school staff, the district Attorney will
track the attendance of students with attendance problems.
As a last resort, if after referrals to the School
Attendance Review Team and School Attendance Review Board attendance
remains unsatisfactory, a criminal case will be filed to hold the parents
accountable. The maximum penalty is a year in the county jail and/or
a $2,500 fine.
