Program Description |
Overcoming Obstacles' mission is to motivate young people to dream of significant accomplishments and to provide them with the tools they need to achieve their goals. We do this by providing teachers with training, a curriculum, and ongoing support so that they may effectively provide middle school and high school students with life skills instruction. Overcoming Obstacles is an education reform program created by the Community for Education Foundation and sponsored in Los Angeles by Occidental Petroleum Corporation, the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, Edison International, and Boeing. |
|
Goals of Program |
It is our goal to integrate a "4th R"--Relevant skills instruction--into the core curriculum of Reading, "Riting, and "Rithmetic; communication, decision making, and goal setting should be taught to all children so they may successfully navigate their way through life. Overcoming Obstacles does this by teaching students the skills they need to graduate from school, to prepare for college, to be productive employees, and to be contributing citizens. |
