Components of the unit
 

Lesson 1-

 

Using ELEMENTS OF LITERATURE, third Course Copyright 1997 by Holt, Rinehart and Winston pages 880-886 students take notes regarding the background information for the Odyssey by Homer. Students compose a short ( 1 page, hand written) informative report on the background to the Odyssey. Students read their reports aloud for presentation points

Divided into groups students will read the Epic out loud to each other using ELEMENTS OF LITERATURE, third Course Copyright 1997 by Holt, Rinehart and Winston. Students answer reading comprehension questions. A class discussion follows in which students share their answers.
 

Lesson 2

 

Once students have cooperatively read the Epic and taken part in discussion for further understanding they will write an essay in which they trace Odysseus's journey back home..

Students must have a Pre Write, a 1st Draft, a Peer Evaluation and the last draft must be typed, double spaced and free of spelling errors.
 

Lesson 3

Students create a PowerPoint presentation and each student presents his/her slides to the class with a brief narrative.
