The English-Language Arts Framework calls for the following
effective features, all of which are present in this unit:
- a literature-based program that encourages reading and exposes
students, including those whose primary language is not English,
to significant readings;
- attention to values in literature that reflects the real
dilemmas faced by all human beings;
- programs that emphasize the integration of listening,
speaking, reading, and writing and the teaching of language skills
in meaningful contexts;
- a writing program that includes various stages of the writing
process--from prewriting through postwriting and from fluency and
content through form and correctness.
