There were several areas in which the students needed preparation:

Students needed to have a basic understanding of DNA and its role in heredity. Working with USC they had already isolated DNA in a lab.

Students needed to read ahead about the Flylab Website to understand what it is about.

Students needed practice in Excel entering data in preparation for unit.
