In the "virtual" lab, students will cross Fruit Flies with specific genetic characteristics and collect data on the resulting offspring. The same cross will be conducted many times to find out the range of variation with each cross.
In the "real" lab, students will use ether to anesthetize
Fruit Flies and sort them by the genetic traits which will
be studied. Parent flies with specific genetic
characteristics will be mated and data regarding the
offspring will be collected and analyzed. The offspring of
each cross will be mated and studied over several
generations.
Results from the virtual lab and real lab will be compared.
