Manual Arts High School , A Pacific Bell Education First Demonstration Site

Unanticipated Outcomes
During the first videoconference, the technical quality was better than I had expected, since I was receiving the Australian site from a small desktop unit in my Los Angeles classroom with relatively low bandwidth. There was very little time delay.

Another unexpected outcome was that a teacher at a neighboring high school near Wollongong University contacted me to set up class-to-class distance learning opportunities.

During the second videoconference in Fall 1998, the technical aspects were reversed. The Los Angeles site moved to the multi-purpose room and was able to accomodate more students, and the bandwidth was high enough for television quality, while in Australia, the site used low bandwidth. Nevertheless, the videoconference was just as successful as the prior year.
