PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The
purpose of Community-Based tutoring (CBET) instruction is to encourage family
members and others provide personal English language tutoring to children of
limited English proficiency and also to support these efforts by raising the
general level of English language knowledge in the community.
The
following course titles and curricula have been designated as applicable for
CBET instruction:

Adults
participating in the program must pledge to tutor school age children in
English language instruction.
NOTES:
Teachers
working in the community-Based English Tutoring Program will be required to
have the same credentials as those need to work in Adult Literacy/ABE (Adult
Basic Education), Adult ESL, Citizenship and/or Parenting and Family Life Education
Programs.

Second Meeting
Snacks are intended for
consumption at your CBET site by the children only; they are not for adult
consumption or to be taken home.
The cost of snack items
should average about $1 per child. If
snack items are purchased from personal funds, reimbursement can be obtained
from the school’s Imprest Fund by following established procedures.
The CBET adviser will be
responsible for the control of bus tokens issued to adults; therefore, it is
suggested that tokens be issued on a daily basis. Bus tokens can be requested
from Transportation Branch by submitting Form 78.112, “Order for Public Carrier
Ticket books, Stamps and Tokens”.
These form are available
from the CBET Office. For additional technical information or classification on
filing out the forms, please call Transportation Branch at (323) 227-4431.
If you have purchased
equipment items with CBET funds, they must be inventoried and labeled with a
CBET label. Labels can be requested from the CBET Office. An annual inventory
must be maintained and updated for these items. This documentation must be
available in case of an adult.
