OBJECTIVES:
Review needs: CBET needs assessment, study habit needs,
and need for contact list. Create CBET
binder.
INTRODUCTION:
1. THE NAME GAME (20
min)
a. Have students write their first and last
name on index cards.
b. Collect cards and pass them out to different
individuals.
c. Have students look for the person using the question
“What’s your name?”
d. Once the person is found, write introduction questions
they can practice. (i.e. What’s your child’s name? What’s school does he/she go to?) Make sure they write the answers on the card.
2.
Explain the importance
of understanding “needs” and tell the students that today’s topics are:
reviewing CBET needs assessment, child’s study habit needs, and parent’s need
for contact list.
NEEDS
ASSESSMENT: (25 min)
1. PAIR WORK Pass
the needs assessments back and have the students work in pairs, sharing their
responses.
2. CLASS DISCUSSION As
a class, discuss the responses.
STUDY HABIT NEEDS: (25 min)
1. HABITS Review the following
habits needs, showing the reasons they are good habits.
|
·
Provide a study place that can accommodate good
study environment. ·
Make sure there is
easy access to necessary supplies. ·
Create a set study time. Teach time
management by making schedules. |
·
Review
homework. Do not do it for the
child. Check homework after it is completed. ·
Help study for tests, by asking questions and
reviewing material. Review schoolwork and daily activities. Ask “How was school?” |
2. GROUP WORK In
groups of three, have the students apply the study habit needs to their child’s
situation.
COMPREHENSION CHECK: (10 min)
Ask students simple question about the study habit
needs. (i.e. What are good study
places? Necessary supplies?)
CONTACT
LIST: Explain
the importance of building a support network.
Give the students an
(5 min) opportunity
to ask other students for their name and telephone number.
Note: make students aware that they are
not required to give out their telephone number.
TEACHER VISIT UPDATE: (15 min)
Ask the students about the results of their visit with their child’s teacher. If by chance the visit wasn’t done, review questions to ask teachers. (For example: What is my child good at? What does my child need to work on? What are three things I can do to help my child?)
CBET BINDER: (20
min)
Provide students with binders to keep class material (i.e. handouts, pledge forms, etc.).
